Boys’ Health

While working to address Feminine Hygiene Management across Kenya, we noticed boys were facing their own barriers to health and wellness.

We conducted research at 49 schools across Kenya and found that over 75% of boys had no underwear at all.

Boys were also lacking open, comprehensive health education.

So, WHISCA expanded its approach to address barriers in boys' health.

Promoting Health for All

    Sewing Project

As a part of the Feminine Hygiene project and Women’s Micro-Enterprise project, local tailors are trained and supported in the creation of Menstrual Health Management (MHM) kits. The kits, which include reusable pads and underwear, are distributed to young women across Kenya.

Since 2020, we’ve expanded the sewing project to include the creation and distribution of boxers for boys in the community.

    Education

We believe that open, comprehensive health education for both boys and girls creates healthy communities and erases stigma. Our approach addresses boys and girls as allies in each other’s growth and development.

In schools, we run Healthy Bodies presentations that teach boys and girls about their bodies and respective reproductive cycles.

We also facilitate open conversations between boys and their fathers where boys have the opportunity to share knowledge about the female reproductive cycle. This works to destigmatize attitudes towards women’s bodies and health.

Since 2020, we have made and distributed over 2,000 boxers to boys across Kenya.
