Annual Lugari Girls’ Leadership Training Camp
Lugari Girls Leadership Camp is an impactful initiative that empowers young girls ages 14-17 from across Kenya to become confident leaders and change-makers in their communities. The camp provides essential education, mentoring, and practical life skills to over 200 girls each year, ensuring they have the knowledge, confidence, and opportunities to pursue their dreams.
Empowering Girls Through Knowledge and Skills
The camp features a holistic approach to education, focusing on key areas such as menstruation and female health. Led by qualified health professionals, sessions cover essential topics like understanding menstruation, cervical cancer awareness, breast self-examinations, and abuse prevention, providing a safe space for the girls to ask questions and learn. Each girl receives a Days for Girls Menstrual Kit, a five-year reusable kit that allows them to manage their menstruation with dignity, ensuring uninterrupted school attendance.
A critical part of the camp is the Soroptimists’ Dream It Be It Curriculum and career fair, designed to introduce the girls to various career opportunities and build their leadership potential. Through management and leadership training, the girls are taught how to solve problems, develop community projects, and mentor others. They also learn practical skills, such as sewing underwear from old t-shirts, enabling them to create and share vital resources within their communities while learning to set healthy boundaries.
